“America was not built on fear. America was built on courage, on imagination, and an unbeatable determination to do the job at hand.”–Harry S Truman -President of United States
May is a special month for me. 23 years ago I landed in John F Kennedy airport for the first time. There is no day in my life that I don’t thank God and my younger self for manifesting and creating a better reality.
Moving to a foreign country alone is an opportunity to push yourself out of your comfort zone in so many different ways, it can be truly rewarding and life-changing. I arrived in this country with $2000 in my pocket with no relatives or family to stay with.
At that time I spoke only Albanian and Italian and I didn’t know how to drive. All I knew was that somehow I will figure it out. I was unstoppable, fearless, and determined.
I was full of life, hope, joy and always believed in myself. Everything I learned from back home, my parents, grandparents, teachers, friends, and relatives helped me find the right path.
Also, it was taboo for a young woman to travel solo, let alone work and live without a man in another country. I didn’t know I was oppressed or had a rebel soul. All I can say that even when I’m facing difficulties, I don’t look back or regret the choices I made. I will never forget my roots and where I came from. I am still living the dream and enjoying my journey in this blessed country which I call it home.
“I had always hoped that this land might become a safe and agreeable asylum to the virtuous and persecuted part of mankind, to whatever nation they might belong.” ―President George Washington-
